How to import changes from a CSV file

Espresso features an advanced data importer that allows you to import changes in bulk from a CSV file. To significantly reduce the risk of overwriting sensitive and important existing data, the importer lets you map one or more columns in your file to one or more columns in the editor. Before importing, you can also specifically select which rows you want to target with the file, ensuring that you won’t overwrite other rows unintentionally.

Importantly, no changes to your products’ data will be made until you review and confirm the changes. The file itself will be processed entirely in your browser.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to use the CSV importer:

Step 1: Select the columns and rows you want to apply changes to

In the editor, simply toggle the visibility of the rows you want to have as an option to import to by using the Columns button in the upper right corner.

Then, select which products you want to target with your changes from the CSV file. You can do this by checking the checkbox in the very first column of the editor grid. You can also select all products in your current filtered view by clicking on the checkbox in the header row.

Step 3: Map columns

Once the file has been uploaded, Espresso will read the file and recognize all of the header titles. To pull the necessary rows from the file, you need to select the unique identifier to match against the products in your edit.

After that, you can map one or more columns from the file to the columns currently selected in your edit.

Important note

Values will only be imported if they adhere to each column's validation scheme. Unmapped columns will not be affected by the import.

Once you have mapped your columns, click on the Review mapping button. No changes to your product's data will be made until you review and confirm them.

Step 4: Review your changes

You can now review the exact changes that will be applied to your edit. If you are not satisfied with the changes, you can click on the Change mapping button. Once you are happy with the result, click on Import changes.

The changes are then applied to your edit as unsaved changes. You can freely remove individual changes before clicking Save or discard all of the changes altogether.

The changes will only be applied to your store once you save and publish your edit.
